The Salon has been envisaged as an event aiming to position the Croatian architectonic production of the period between 2000 and 2003 within the contemporary European context. When receiving the applications for the Salon a special attention will be given to a critical reply and approach to the new reality.

All submitted works were reviewed and selected by an architect, urbanism expert and critic Dr.Sc. Stefano Boeri (Italy) who has been appointed selector and juror of 38th Zagreb Salon will revise all the applications and select them for exhibition. Stefano Boeri is a professor at the Department of Urban Design at the Universities of Venice and Mendrisio, as well as a visiting professor at the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. Apart from that he also teaches in Japan and USA. He is an editor-in-chief of "Domus", the monthly magazine for architecture, design and communications.

Works to be exhibited were grouped into thematic fields PUBLIC SPACE (PS), COMMERCIAL (COM), CONCEPTUAL (C), COLLECTIVE BUILDINGS (CB), HOUSING (H), URBAN DESIGN (UD), INTERIOR DESIGN (ID).

The introduction of new media means taking a step away from the traditional exhibition design. It is expressed through the printout of images onto poster-formatted paper, stretched low along the walls of the white cube of the gallery. The works will be shown in a digital projection, liberated of their material dimension, which brings them nearer to conceptual understanding of architecture.

ZADAR MAGNIFICAT, exhibition of Nikola Bašić, the winner of the Grand Prize of 35th Zagreb Salon, will be held separately.

One of the programs within the framework of 38th Zagreb Salon is the International architectural internet competition on the subject “Borders: the Other Side of Globalization” introducing new media in the architectural presentation, conceived as a conceptual redefining of Borders of the Republic of Croatia with the European Union. The ideas and suggestions for the redefining of the border space can be submitted from the domain of architecture and urban planning, landscape architecture, graphic design, industrial design and all the other disciplines based on the visual interpretation of reality. The particularities and/or differences in the economic, cultural, social and landscape context can generate a basis for the suggestions. All suggestions have to anticipate the addition of the Republic of Croatia to the European integrations in the period of time from 2007 onwards. A special attention will be dedicated to the quality of concepts, emphasis of the differences between the two territories, connecting the territories, the theoretical possibility of the implementation of the suggestions and the visual quality of the suggestions. All the projects applied will be submitted to the selector Vedran Mimica, professor at the Berlage Institut in Amsterdam and prominent theoretician of architecture.

A number of events will take place during the 38th Zagreb Salon / architecture / 2003 - specialised exhibitions, promotions, lectures and discussions, in collaboration with other institutions and associations devoted to architecture and spatial culture. The research laboratory exhibition of the Italian "Multiplicity" group in the premises of the Croatian Architects Association and the Zagreb Architects Association, as well as opening the Architects' Club to the public during the exhibition will make this location one of the most recommendable places in the town at the end of this year.
